Luxury handwoven textiles, born in a Swedish village

Desseli’s roots are in central Sweden, in a small village where an old loom stood waiting in a quiet corner of the house. Jelena Zukova, busy raising two small children at home, began weaving in the evenings as a creative outlet, a few quiet hours that were hers alone.

With no formal training, she learned the craft from traditional Swedish weaving literature and patient trial and error. Every mistake on the loom taught her something new, and over the years that persistence grew into real expertise. The result is what Desseli is known for today: high end handwoven textiles with a regal, refined look and a durability meant to serve several generations of one family.

The high end baby wrap, woven to be inherited

No machine takes part in making a Desseli. Colour is applied, the cloth is woven and the finishing is sewn entirely by hand. Because every colour choice and every thread is set individually, there is never a second copy of a Desseli wrap.

Worn as a baby carrier, a Desseli high end baby wrap is both beautiful and useful. It holds your child snugly against you, whether you are cooking at home, walking in the woods, out on a mountain trail, at the seaside or on a journey abroad. And when your child has outgrown being carried, the fabric still has a long life ahead of it.

Baby wrap

A luxury carrier that lets you keep your baby near while your hands stay free.

Shawl

Draped over the shoulders, it gives warmth with quiet elegance.

Clothing

The cloth can be tailored into one-off garments of rare character.

Wall art

Hung on a wall, the weave is enjoyed the way you would enjoy a canvas.

Why high end handwoven textiles take time

At Desseli, a piece is finished when it is right, never when a deadline says so. Handweaving at this level takes many hours, and several of the materials are custom-made and only available in small amounts. That is why only a handful of pieces leave the loom.

Every silk and wool yarn that goes into a Desseli carries the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certificate in product class 1. This is the strictest class and covers textiles for babies. In practice it means the yarn has been checked by independent laboratories for harmful substances.

Questions about our luxury baby wraps

What makes Desseli a luxury baby wrap brand?

Every Desseli is handwoven in Sweden, one piece at a time, from OEKO-TEX® certified silk and wool. Each piece is unique, only a few are made, and they are built to be handed down.

What is a high end babywrap?

A high end babywrap is a baby carrier made as a piece of textile art: handwoven from premium materials, with a unique design and a quality meant to become an heirloom. A Desseli wrap keeps your baby comfortably close in everyday life, on walks, hikes and travel.

Who makes Desseli’s high end handwoven textiles?

Desseli was founded by the artist and weaver Jelena Zukova in a small village in central Sweden. She is self-taught, learning from traditional Swedish weaving books and years of hands-on practice.

What materials are used in Desseli’s luxury handwoven textiles?

Only silk and wool yarns with the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certificate, product class 1, are used. That is the class for textiles made for babies.

Are two Desseli wraps ever the same?

No. The colours and the placement of every thread are decided by hand for each piece, so every Desseli is one of a kind.

How can I buy a Desseli baby wrap?

Pieces are sold in an online silent auction that is open to bidders in any country. You can also join the waiting list to hear when a new piece becomes available.

Can a Desseli be used for more than babywearing?

Yes. Besides baby wraps, Desseli pieces are used as shawls, made into unique clothing, or displayed as wall art.

Where in the world are Desseli pieces found?

Desseli has grown through personal recommendations rather than advertising, and its pieces have travelled from Sweden to families in the USA, Canada, Australia, China and many European countries.
